Shekinah Legal LLC is a brand that was founded on faith, justice, and community. In 2024, a passionate and dedicated registered nurse turned attorney, Monique White, started a law firm with a mission to provide excellent legal services while giving back to her community after witnessing first-hand the struggles many faced in accessing quality legal services. Monique's own journey has shaped the ethos of Shekinah Legal.
The ethos of Shekinah Legal LLC is shaped by Monique’s own journey. Though she loved caring for others as a nurse, she felt drawn to the law as an advocate and a way to fight for the underserved. Fueled by her passion for justice and a desire to effectuate change, Monique embarked on the arduous journey of putting herself through law school while working long hours as a nurse. Though juggling school, work, and family was an immense challenge, her perseverance and work ethic drove her forward.
As an African American attorney, Monique recognizes the challenges that minorities face in the legal system and broader society. She started the firm to give underserved communities access to quality legal representation. She founded Shekinah -Hebrew for "God's dwelling place"- on the belief that the law should be a refuge and advocate for the oppressed. The name Shekinah reflects the divine spirit behind the firm’s calling and principles of justice, compassion, and service.
As a Black woman business owner, Monique is breaking barriers in a predominantly white male industry. She mentors young woman of color interested in law, business, and healthcare, encouraging them to find their voice. The firm takes on a variety of cases, provides pro bono services, and partners with local churches, and nonprofits.
At Shekinah Legal, the unique focus is the whole person. Clients are not just cases, but real people with hopes, struggles and dreams. We know that behind every case is a real person with real struggles. We aim to uplift our community by delivering justice, creating opportunities, and restoring hope. The firm’s faith-based approach means every client is treated with dignity.
With decades of experience and a passion for service, Monique leads Shekinah Legal with legal excellence paired with compassion. No case is too big or too small to let God work through the law. Monique’s journey demonstrates that with passion, perseverance, and purpose, you can turn dreams into reality and make a positive difference in the lives of others.
